When you are healthy, you have a thousand wishes. When you are sick, only one.
WHAT IS FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE?
Functional medicine is a holistic and science based approach to health and disease. Rather than simply managing symptoms, it focuses on identifying and addressing the underlying causes of health concerns.
This approach considers the complex interactions between organ systems, lifestyle, nutrition, stress, environmental exposures, and genetics. The aim is to uncover and eliminate root causes so the body can return to homeostasis (balance), allowing all physiological systems to function optimally—ultimately restoring health.
We examine:
-
How digestion, hormones, the immune system, and the nervous system are interconnected
-
What triggers may be contributing to symptoms (e.g., food sensitivities, stress, infections, toxins)
-
How lifestyle factors such as nutrition, sleep, physical activity, and stress management support recovery
Example:
In cases of persistent fatigue, we go beyond checking for imbalances or deficiencies in blood values. Simply correcting deficiencies may offer only temporary or limited relief in individuals with chronic symptoms. Instead, we investigate the origins of the complaint using a comprehensive approach—evaluating environmental influences such as mold or water damage in the home, as well as gut health, adrenal function, dietary habits, stress levels, and other contributing factors.
TEST! DON'T GUESS WITH YOUR HEALTH!
An important part of my approach involves identifying and mapping out disruptive or burdensome factors in the body. These may include:
-
Environmental toxins such as plastics, pesticides, plasticizers, heavy metals, and air pollution
-
Toxins produced by molds and bacteria, including mycotoxins and endotoxins
-
Hidden infections, such as parasites, fungi, viruses, or bacterial overgrowth
-
Hormonal imbalances caused by issues like estrogen dominance, thyroid dysfunction, adrenal fatigue, or exposure to endocrine-disrupting substances from food, cosmetics, and the environment
-
Gut-related issues such as leaky gut, dysbiosis, food intolerances, and poor nutrient absorption
-
Chronic stress, unresolved emotional patterns, or traumatic experiences that impact the nervous and immune systems
To gain a clear understanding of these factors, I use advanced laboratory testing. This includes stool analyses, blood and urine tests, saliva testing, hair mineral analysis, and, when appropriate, genetic profiling.
These tests provide valuable insights into the functioning of your immune system, digestion, gut microbiome, detoxification pathways, hormonal balance, and genetic predispositions.
By examining all these elements together, we can accurately pinpoint and address the root causes of a wide range of complaints—including chronic fatigue, hormonal imbalances, migraines, digestive issues, skin conditions, Long Covid, burnout, POTS, and mental emotional disorders like depression and anxiety.
A Synergistic Approach: Functional Medicine and Orthomolecular Therapy
Functional medicine and orthomolecular therapy complement and reinforce each other. While functional medicine focuses on uncovering the root causes of your complaints, orthomolecular therapy supports your body’s natural healing processes through:
-
Identifying and addressing the root causes of your symptoms
-
Targeted supplementation with vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and fatty acids to relieve burdens and restore balance
-
Implementing lifestyle changes and stress management strategies
This powerful combination promotes sustainable recovery from within and helps prevent future health issues by addressing the underlying factors that disrupt your body’s equilibrium.
What complaints can be treated?
FATIGUE
LYME AND CO-INFECTIONS
I know what it feels like to be exhausted all the time - physically and mentally. Together with you, I will look at where your energy is leaking. We will examine your intestines, mitochondria, hormone balance and possible toxic load such as mold or heavy metals.
Recovery is possible – I have experienced that myself. Complaints such as burnout, post-viral syndrome, Long COVID or long-term fatigue without a clear cause are often the result of multiple underlying factors. By mapping these and tackling them step by step, your energy will come back to life.
MOOD/BEHAVIOR
nfections such as Lyme, Bartonella, Babesia, EBV, and other blood parasites can cause long-lasting symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, and joint pain.
I work with LDI (Low Dose Immunotherapy) to help the immune system relearn how to recognize and respond to these triggers in a healthy way—without overreacting. This approach is safe, effective, and focused on sustainable recovery.
CARDIOVASCULAR PROBLEMS
Anger, rage outbursts, depression, anxiety, obsessive thoughts, worrying, compulsive behavior (OCD), and symptoms such as PANS and PANDAS – it is more common than you think. Mold rage (rage caused by mold load) is a real phenomenon.
You are not crazy – there are often physical causes for mood problems. It is not a lack of medication. With the right functional diagnostics we can detect the underlying causes and treat them in a targeted manner.
HORMONAL IMBALANCE
Symptoms such as post-COVID fatigue, palpitations, blood pressure fluctuations, reduced exercise tolerance, POTS, fatigue after physical exertion, chest pain, shortness of breath, a weak or irregular pulse, and even lightheadedness or dizziness are becoming increasingly common.
These complaints can arise from inflammation, deficiencies, or toxic burden. In my practice, we search for the root cause—so that your heart and energy levels can return to balance.
MEMORY AND CONCENTRATION
Hormonal imbalances can manifest in many ways: estrogen dominance, PMS, excessive menstrual bleeding, abdominal and back cramps, irritability, sleep problems, hot flashes, vaginal dryness, low libido, or difficulty losing or gaining weight.
These complaints are often dismissed as “normal”, but they are not. They indicate a disruption in your hormonal balance – often caused by factors such as stress, deficiencies, intestinal problems or toxic load.
ENVIRONMENTAL TOXINS AND DETOXIFICATION
Hormonal imbalances can manifest in many ways: estrogen dominance, PMS, excessive menstrual bleeding, abdominal and back cramps, irritability, sleep problems, hot flashes, vaginal dryness, low libido, or difficulty losing or gaining weight.
These complaints are often dismissed as “normal”, but they are not. They indicate a disruption in your hormonal balance – often caused by factors such as stress, deficiencies, intestinal problems or toxic load.
DEPRESSION, ANXIETY & MENTAL COMPLAINTS
Mood disorders such as anxiety, depression, obsessive thoughts, negative brooding, irritability, concentration problems (ADD/ADHD) and anger outbursts are often seen as purely psychological in nature. However, there is increasing evidence that these complaints can also have a physical origin.
Mold toxicity, heavy metals, parasitic infections, nutrient deficiencies, and disrupted intestinal flora can affect the nervous system and brain, contributing to emotional and cognitive complaints.
SKIN PROBLEMS
For skin issues such as acne, psoriasis, eczema, hives (urticaria), rosacea, or fungal-related skin problems, an external solution like steroids or antibiotics is often chosen. Although these treatments can provide temporary relief, they rarely address the underlying cause—and can actually further disrupt the gut and immune system. Skin problems are often the result of dysbiosis in the gut, food intolerances, inflammatory processes, hormonal imbalances, or toxic burdens (such as mold or heavy metals). By addressing the root cause and supporting the body’s recovery, we often see impressive results—not only on the skin but also in overall health and vitality.
Dizziness, mental fog, confusion, daydreaming, a feeling of being absent, difficulty concentrating, derealization or depersonalization, forgetting things you normally remember—such as names or where you placed your keys.
These symptoms can significantly disrupt your daily functioning and often feel frustrating or frightening. They often have a physical cause, such as inflammation, nutrient deficiencies, mold exposure, or other disturbances in the nervous system. Together, we will explore what is going on so you can regain clarity and focus.
DIGESTIVE PROBLEMS AND INFECTIONS
Symptoms such as bloating, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, food intolerances, and fatigue can originate from an imbalanced gut flora or infections. Think of parasites like Crypto, Giardia, and Blasto, candida, worms, bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), H. pylori, Clostridia (such as C. difficile), and fungi.
Fatty liver, gallbladder problems, urinary tract infections, low stomach acid production, enzyme deficiencies, and malabsorption are also common and can lead to muscle weakness, fatigue, or growth delays.
With the right tests and guidance, we can identify these causes and treat them effectively.
FERTILITY AND PREGNANCY
Many women are told that they are "unexplained infertile." However, in practice, it often turns out that factors such as toxic burden, gut problems, hormonal imbalances, and nutrient deficiencies contribute to this.
By supporting the body through detoxification of chemicals and mycotoxins, restoring gut flora and hormones, and optimizing nutrition and absorption, dozens of women—who were previously told that pregnancy was impossible—have still been able to have a healthy baby.
I also offer guidance during pregnancy and the postnatal phase to help bring mother and child into balance and provide support where needed.
SECOND OPINION
I haven’t been able to mention everything that can be treated here. Many people suffer from unexplained symptoms for which no clear diagnosis is made—or are told that it’s “all in their head.”
If your complaints are not taken seriously or you feel stuck, know that there are often physical causes. Think of hidden infections, toxic burdens, food intolerances, or hormonal imbalances.
